roll #1

Recently, I fulfilled a long-standing item on my bucket list by having one of my grandfather’s cameras refurbished. This desire had been with me since my dad entrusted me with a large box of his father’s photography equipment many years ago. Both my dad and grandfather were avid photographers, primarily focused on capturing images of nature and their travels. I followed in their footsteps, attending film photography classes at the local university during my adolescence and then in high school. Through these classes, I developed a genuine love for the art of photography, something my dad took pride in sharing with me. Together, we would pore over images by Ansel Adams and embark on countless hikes, armed with our cameras.

The opportunity to refurbish my grandfather’s Leica camera not only revitalizes the connection I felt with my dad during our explorations but also with my grandfather, who passed away when I was five. Photography is a bond that I share with both of these men, whose name I carry with honor. I am eager to reacquaint myself with the art and reignite that fire within me, the one that belongs to the girl who would grab her camera and head for the hills, ready for adventure.

This roll of film was shot on Ilford XP2 SUPER 35MM film with a Leica M2.
