CHRISTINE DREW BENJAMIN
As a writer, creator, and activist, Christine produces work centered around the intersection of politics and womanhood. Her writing is primarily rooted in flipping the lens on ourselves while exploring current social issues and gender studies. She specializes in new play development, community centered fundraising events, and arts education.
Originally from Northern California, currently rooted in Los Angeles by way of New York, Christine founded S.H.E. (Stories Heard Everywhere) in 2014, a storytelling advocacy platform dedicated to cultivating conversations, breaking down barriers, and interpersonal human connection through the use of social media, blogging, and film. As a playwright, her current work includes Castles in the Air (The Big Bear Theatre Project, Untold Stories of Jewish Women) and Unruly Women (Stories of the Resistance). She has developed and presented scripts across the globe, including The Secret Seduction of Little Girls (John Woods Scholarship, Prague Summer Program for Writers), The Purity Play (FullStop Collective), and Carries On (The O’Neill). Directing credits include Element 109 (Untold Stories of Jewish Women), Turquoise and Cloves (Occupy the Empty Space), and Estrellas Verdes (Foreplays).
Christine is a member of the board of the Coeurage Theatre Company and serves as the Managing Director of The Big Bear Theatre Project. She studied Theatre Arts (B.A.) with an emphasis in playwriting and Women’s Studies (minor) at California State University, Fullerton.
